Middle Georgia OL Names Top 4

Lance Helton is a big offensive line prospect from the football factory known as Washington County High School in Sandersville, Ga. He currently lists four schools at the top of his list.

"Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Vandy are my favorites. Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt are showing me the most interest right now. I've always been a Wake Forest fan since I was a little kid though," Lance Helton said.

What stands out about those programs?

Auburn: "I like the offensive scheme they run. It's just beautiful. Seth Watts is a great mentor to me and he taught me how to critique OL's and figure out what they do right and what they do wrong. Auburn does everything well. It's one of the Top 3 schemes in college football in my opinion."

Georgia: "It's just the tradition Georgia has. Every year they have a chance to win a national championship. They're surrounded by great coaches and their offensive coordinator Neil Callaway is a great coach. Coach Richt is one of the best guys I've ever met, and I have a lot of guys from my high school there. Seth Watts is like my big brother."

Georgia Tech: "Chan Gailey. He's really trying to turn that school around. They've signed a good group of wide receivers and players. They spread the ball out more than some schools and those Tech fans are die hard. It's just a great atmosphere. It's a great school for engineering."

Vanderbilt: "They haven't won a lot lately, but their coaches are really trying hard, and they want to build their program with guys from winning schools. We've won a lot here at Washington County"

Helton was a standout on the field last fall.

"I was named first name All-State and first team all Middle Georgia. I had 87 pancake blocks last year."

What is Lance looking for most in a school?

"My mom is a teacher and she's always been strict on my academics. I want a place with a strong academic background. I want something that I can fall back on and be successful with in the real world. Of course, a good program is also important.
