MIAMI – A little over two years ago, I made the trip over to Miami's Booker T. Washington High School. I was there to watch Antonio Dixon, who was just entering his senior season and was being recruited by many of the top teams in College Football.
While watching Dixon perform, there was another prospect that caught my attention. His name was Thaddeus Lewis. At the time, Lewis was just finishing up his freshman season and people had predicted some great things for this potential standout.
It was during that season when Lewis led his Tornadoes against a potent Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas team in a prime-time Saturday night game at Miami's famed Traz Powell Stadium. That was the first chance many outside of Miami-Dade had the chance of watching him play.
Now, two years later, Lewis is one of the top prospects in the nation. After transferring to Hialeah Miami Lakes, Lewis is ready to finish off what he started just a couple of years ago.
Last season, the 6-foot-2, 185 pound signal caller jumped back on to the radar screen with 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns and only having 4 interceptions.
So, when FloridaKids.us sat down with Lewis on Thursday in this exclusive interview, he had a chance to reveal some of the schools that interest him.
"I like Florida, Georgia, Auburn and Georgia Tech the most," he said. "Florida and Georgia have already asking my coach if I would be interested in their schools."
Is there a leader among those schools at this time? "Florida and Georgia stand out the most at this time," Lewis said. "I want to play in the SEC and those are two of the best programs in the SEC."
While some schools are recruiting Lewis as an athlete, he wants the opportunity to play quarterback, a position he has stood out at most of his young life.
"I want to play quarterback in college," he said. "That's the only position I have played and what suits me best."
At this time there is only one thing Lewis is concentrating on: "I want to lead my team to the state championship," he said with a smile. "We had a nice run last year in the playoffs, but I want to finish off what was started last year and that's by ending up with a state championship trophy."
