Fabris to return to Athens

ATHENS – The defensive ends coaching spot has been filled after all.

Jon Fabris will return to Athens to coach for the Bulldogs less than a week after he left. A statement will be released from Georgia in the next few hours regarding the situation. Official comment from the school was not available at this time because Sports Information Director Claude Felton is out of the office.

"This is in no way a negative reflection on Oklahoma, Coach (Bob) Stoops or the OU football program," Fabris told SoonerSports.com. "I want to be clear about that. Everything has been handled very professionally. I just have some personal matters that need to be addressed. There is no more to it than that."

Fabris resigned from his position at Georgia earlier this week. He told the team about his decision at a matt drills session early Monday morning. The announcement was made available to the media shortly thereafter.

"I fully understand and respect Jon's reasoning in making this decision," said OU head coach Bob Stoops. "There were some issues that Jon thought could be worked out, but now it appears that it would be best for him to return to Georgia. He's making the decision for the right reasons. We all respect him for taking this kind of stand."
