Top 5 Set For Blue Chip Quarterback

Matthew Stafford is one of the top players available in the entire class of '06 and so far he's been taking it slow when it comes to recruiting. In an interview on Tuesday night however, Matthew broke that silence and revealed his top 5 to Who's in the running right now?

"I'll go ahead and give you my top 5. In alphabetical order, I like Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma and Texas," Matthew Stafford said.

Why have the Noles, Dawgs, Wolverines, Sooners and Horns made the initial cut?

Florida State: "I love the tradition. I love Bobby (Bowden) just for who he is. They have great athletes also."

Georgia: "Great coaching. Real good tradition and playing in the SEC would be sweet."

Michigan: "They have produced a bunch of good quarterbacks and every QB since 1986 there has gone to the NFL."

Oklahoma: "I think they have a great coaching staff and a great tradition of winning. They also produce great quarterbacks."

Texas: "They have a great program, great athletes and a pretty good chance to compete for a job early."

Stafford will make two campus visits in the next two weekends and is looking at a couple of more for the summer time.

"I'm going to Texas this weekend for their spring game and I'm going the week after that to Georgia for G-Day. I think I'm also going to Michigan this summer and possibly over to Oklahoma as well."

Those unofficial visits will be huge in determining just who signs this Texas gun slinger, because they may not have a chance to get him on campus again.

"I may make a decision before ever taking an official visit. I also doubt that I'll camp anywhere else this summer except for the Elite 11. I just think we have a good year ahead of us and I want to work with my receivers."

Will Matthew finish school early?

"I'm not sure if I'll graduate early yet. If I go to a place that wants me to come in early, I'll go ahead and do that. If not, I'll just finish out my senior year."

The recruitment of this Highland Park star is just beginning to heat up and promises to be one of the more intriguing ones around the country this fall. Stay tuned to for the latest on this blue chip signal caller.
