Cruz Barrett is a big offensive lineman from powerhouse Mainland High School in Daytona that has overcome a lot to get where he is already as told in this interview from the Scout.com Combine in Jackonsville. As it stands now, Barrett has been unable to hit the college camp circuit, but he will get plenty of looks this fall from top teams around the country.
"Florida is still my only offer right now," said Barrett. "I get
handwritten letters from Florida State, West Virginia, Nebraska, LSU, and
Oklahoma pretty much every week. Because of financial crunches, I'll only be
able to go to the Florida State Summer Camp in July."
Without having been able to see more schools this summer, Barrett's list of
favorites remains unchanged.
"Right now, my top schools are still the same. I like Florida, Florida
State, West Virginia, Georgia, and Oklahoma."
What does Barrett like about each of his favorites?
"Florida is my only offer, and I like talking with their coaches. I grew up
a Florida State fan. I don't know much about West Virginia, but they seem to be
recruiting me hard. I think I would have a great opportunity to contribute early
at Georgia. Oklahoma always seems to be playing for National Titles. I want a
great education, plus I want to play for a winning program."
Barrett is a player to keep an eye on for the near future and beyond. He could
have packed it in a long time ago, but he has risen above his circumstances.
That is the type of character that separates the good players from the great
