SEC Program Takes the Lead

Deland High School's Johnny Patrick is a player we haven't talked about very much on Scout.com thus far this year but the Deltona High transfer has already picked up 17 nice offers and he names a big time SEC program as his favorite school. Who's jumped on board with scholarship pledges and who leads for his signature at this point?

"I have 17 offers right now. I have Auburn, Duke, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Marshall, Maryland, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Purdue, South Florida, Temple, Tennessee, Central Florida, Indiana, South Carolina and FIU. Florida State is also looking at me really hard," Johnny Patrick said.

Patrick names a top 5 with a leader.

"My top 5 is Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Louisville and South Carolina. My favorite school is Georgia."

What has placed the Dawgs on top?

"I just like them. Their coaching staff and everything is real good. Coach Smart talks real good and seems like a good guy. I really like him."

What stands out about the other schools on his list?

Georgia Tech: "They came to the school and talked to the coaches. They seem to like me a lot."

Tennessee: "I like the whole program and it's in the SEC."

Louisville: "They have a passing offense and they offered me first."

South Carolina: "Steve Spurrier spreads it around and runs a passing offense."

What will he base his final decision upon?

"I'm looking at the coaching staff and the program. Distance and all that doesn't matter to me. I can play anywhere."

The Sunshine State star appears close to ending his recruitment.

"I want to make a commitment but I'm just not sure yet. I'll probably commit sometime before the season starts. I'd like to see Georgia in person first."
