Countdown to Fall Camp: Special Teams

Georgia's 2005 season opens soon – the Bulldogs start their camp on August 5 – so here is a look at Georgia's situation on Special Teams.

2004 Starters: Gordon Ely-Kelso, Brandon Coutu and Andy Bailey

Ely-Kelso had a steadier year in 2004 than 2003. Ely-Kelso was recently named as an All-SEC third teamer, which shows how far his consistency has come in the last two seasons. Ely-Kelso's leg will provide the Bulldogs with one of their top weapons of 2005. Ely-Kelso has no problem pinning teams inside thier 20 yard line - that was not the case two years ago.

Bailey will be in for the fight of his life against Coutu at place kicker this fall. Neither was able to wrestle the number one spot away from the other exclusively, but Coutu will enter fall camp as the number one kicker. Coutu has the benefit of being the number one kicker on his side – Bailey has to unseat him. Brian Mimbs and Coutu seem to be the favorites for starting kickoff duties. Bailey has the biggest leg of all of Georgia's kickers, but his consistency has been lacking – it cost his the starting spot at the end of the 2004 season. Still, Bailey was named Freshman All-SEC last season.
