3 Georgia Soccer Players Competing At Nationals

ORLANDO, Fla. – Three University of Georgia soccer players begin competition with their respective under-19 youth club teams Wednesday afternoon at the 2005 Youth Soccer National Championships at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. Junior midfielder Randi-Lynn Bruso and sophomore defender Susie Weber take the field for the Stars of Massachusetts and will face the Colorado Rush and a Bulldog teammate in the first of three round-robin matches.

"We are very excited to have these young ladies playing for a youth National Championship," said Georgia head coach Patrick Baker. "Hopefully this can become an extension of what we are looking to do here at Georgia. Having these players in Orlando should benefit us greatly going into the season. These three girls will already be in great shape, and will already have seen some great competition. They will be game-fit and should really be able to raise the level of play of our whole team."

The tournament consists of four national finalists who each won their respective regional championship. The teams will play round-robin matches Wednesday, July 27 through Friday, July 29 to determine who will advance to play for the National Championship. Teams will earn three points for a win, one point for a tie and no points for a loss. The two teams with the most points at the conclusion of Friday's play will advance to play for the National Championship on Sunday, July 31.

The Soccer Dogs play a preseason scrimmage against North Carolina State on Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Georgia Soccer/Softball Complex on South Milledge Ave. The first regular season contest will be a Friday night home-opener on Aug. 26 against Georgia Southern.
