Georgia Swimmers Miss Out On Finals

MONTREAL - University of Georgia swimmers found the going tough on Friday at the FINA World Championships as Laura Conway, Josh Laban and Alexandra Putra all failed to advance from preliminary heats.

Representing the United States, Conway touched in 8 minutes, 37.90 seconds in the 800-meter freestyle, finishing 10th and missing out on the 8-swimmer final. Laban, of the Virgin Islands, was 52nd in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.08. Putra, swimming for France, was 25th in the 200 backstroke as she clocked in at 2:17.48.

On Saturday, the Georgia swimmers in action will include Mary DeScenza, Kara Lynn Joyce, Miguel Mendoza, Sarah Poewe, Putra and Sebastien Rouault.

Georgia coach Jack Bauerle is serving as the head coach for the U.S. women¹s team.
