Former Vol in Athens?

Ex-Tennessee quarterback Brent Schaeffer wants to be back in the Southeastern Conference in two years and is considering coming to Georgia, according to a report in The Tampa Tribune.

Brent Schaeffer, who threw for 302 yards in eight games last year, told the Tampa newspaper that he will spend this season at the College of the Sequoias, a junior college in California. After that, he plans to look into the possibility of playing for the Bulldogs, the University of Florida or Auburn University. He hasn't to talked to coaches from any of the schools, he said. Schaeffer, who last year became the first true freshman to start in a season opener in the SEC in 59 years, considered both Clemson and Texas A&M before deciding to enroll in a junior college. He left Tennessee after spring drills. At the time, he was suspended due to an assault charge.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining if he returns to an SEC school next year.
