2005 Up and Comer: Danny Verdun – Wheeler

ATHENS - One Bulldog linebacker was overlooked at the SEC's Media Days All-SEC selections. That won't happen at the end of the season.

Georgia's linebackers were once considered a strength of the team. There was depth at all three spots, and the players filling each position were very talented. But the off-season was a stressful time for the Dawgs, particularly at linebacker.

Josh Johnson and Derrick White were both dismissed from the program – suddenly the linebackers were not as deep as once thought.

But one linebacker, Danny Verdun – Wheeler, is sure to catch fans and opposing coaches' eyes this season. During summer workouts, Verdun – Wheeler was the leader of the defense in all aspects of strength and conditioning. He can run like the wind, and has been known to put the hurt on his opponents.

Verdun – Wheeler will be forced to pick up the slack left behind by the players that are no longer with the team. However, Verdun – Wheeler seems to be emerging as the star linebacker for 2005.
