Day 3 practice report

ATHENS - The Georgia football team pushed through a practice session on Monday despite heavy rains at the outset.

After their period of stretching, the Bulldogs were drenched by pounding precipitation for nearly an hour. However, rather than postpone or cancel practice, Georgia coach Mark Richt had his team continue with its third preseason workout. And as it turned out, the sun came out for the final half of the practice.

"We still got a lot done," Richt said. "We decided we'd stick it out unless we had thunder and lightning, which we never did. You've got to play football in the rain sometimes. If we'd had a game today, we would've had to play in it."

Even though the players had to deal with slippery footballs and heavy shoes, Richt said he was pleased with the team's energy level.

"We're still installing things," Richt said. "But we had people flying around the ball on defense, which is a good sign."

Georgia will return to the field on Tuesday and Wednesday for practices, followed by the first two-a-day practice on Thursday.
