Ruiz Selected To Compete For Mexico

MONTERREY, Mexico – University of Georgia senior tennis standout Antonio Ruiz has been selected to represent Mexico at the World University Games, announced head coach Manuel Diaz Tuesday.

Ruiz, half of the defending NCAA Doubles Championship team, will compete with the Mexican squad in Izmir, Turkey, August 11-21. Additionally, Ruiz has decided to take the fall semester off from The University of Georgia and will travel throughout Europe and the United States, competing as an amateur in open tournaments.

"Antonio is recovering from some shoulder problems," said Diaz. "He suffered an injury late in the spring and has been relatively inactive during the summer. Because of this, he has decided to take the fall season off from school and collegiate competition, so that he can slowly get back to training and playing again. He is really looking forward to returning to Georgia in the spring and we are greatly looking forward to welcoming him back."
