Georgia Volleyball to Host Pre-Season Scrimmage

ATHENS - The Georgia volleyball team will host its annual pre-season scrimmage on Sat., Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. at the UGA Ramsey Center. It will be the first look Georgia fans can get of the 2005 team, which includes three freshmen.

This year's scrimmage has an added twist, as players from past Georgia volleyball teams will suit up to face the new crop of Bulldogs.

The team of former letterwinners will include Jessica Boller (2000-03), Erin Gornes (1998-01), Christine Nelson (1994-97), Nikki Nicholson Chester (1992-95), Beverley Uipi (1994-97) and Margot Wallace (2001-04).

³We are all looking forward to the competition and having some fun playing,² said head coach Steffi Legall. ³I am looking forward to watching us play against, what I expect to be a very competitive alumni team. A lot of the former players currently play on adult teams and compete at the national level, so the competition on Saturday will be fun to watch.²

The 2005 Bulldogs have been back in the gym and preparing for the upcoming season since Aug. 8, including several two-a-day practices. Legall has been pleased with the team's efforts.

³We have stressed the importance of a strong desire to compete in almost every single drill, and the players have really taken to that attitude. This has been a very competitive and intense pre-season, and I am confident that the intensity level will carry over to our upcoming matches," Legall said.

Georgia's regular season opens on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. against Charlotte in Athens.
