Leskosky receives the USTA Sportsmanship Award

ATHENS - University of Georgia incoming freshman Link Leskosky received the United States Tennis Association Sportsmanship Award at the USTA Girls 18s National Championships this past weekend in San Jose, California. She was chosen the recipient among a 256-person draw in the country's most prestigious junior tournament of the year.

Leskosky, a native of Macon, Ga., begins her Bulldog career Thursday when classes begin at the University of Georgia. A graduate of Stratford Academy, she was named the 2005 Female Junior Tennis Player of the Year by the Georgia Tennis Association. She won four state singles titles during her prep career and was a four-time GISA Class AAA All-State selection. The USTA Sportsmanship Award is the latest honor for Leskosky who also was recognized for her sportsmanship at the 2004 Southern Closed Championships in Little Rock, Ark. At the 2005 USTA event last week, she advanced to the third round before falling to the fifth seed Julia Cohen.

The Bulldogs finished last season with an 18-8 mark and final national ranking of ninth.
