The fall tournament season opens Sept. 16 with the Thomasville (Ga.) Invitational. The round-robin event will feature student-athletes from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Georgia. From Oct. 13-16, Georgia will play host to the ITA South Regionals, a qualifying event for the ITA National Indoors which will be in Columbus, Ohio from Nov. 3-6. The Bulldogs will play host to the Georgia Invitational from Jan. 20-22. The tournament will feature Kansas State, Miss. State, Troy and the host Bulldogs in a round-robin format of singles and doubles.
The first team dual match will be Jan. 26 against William & Mary in Athens. The Bulldogs will play host to Georgia Southern on Jan. 28 and then head to Madison, Wis., for the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Southeastern Conference teams coming to Athens this year are Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, Miss. State and Mississippi plus non-conference foes in Winthrop, Clemson and Marshall. Florida will play host to the SEC Tournament from April 20-23 with NCAA first and second round action slated for May 12-14. The 2006 NCAA Championships Round of 16-Finals site will be on the Stanford campus in California from May 18-28.
The 2005-06 Bulldog squad will be led by seniors Caroline Basu and Evgenia Subbotina along with juniors Natalie Frazier, Shadisha Robinson and sophomore Kelley Hyndman. The Bulldogs welcomes a pair of newcomers in freshmen Link Leskosky, a native of Macon, and junior transfer Darya Ivanov, who attended Tulane for two seasons. The Basu/Robinson duo ended the year ranked number one nationally in doubles. They earned All-America honors after posting a school record 28-4 mark. Robinson was named an All-American in singles too after going 32-15 with a year-end ranking of number 13. Frazier went 30-13 and ended the year ranked number 32.
Georgia concluded the 2005 season ranked ninth nationally at 18-8. Georgia has been ranked among the nation's top 10 schools for nine consecutive seasons and advanced to the NCAA Championships 19 straight years. The Bulldogs are coached by Jeff Wallace and assistant Christa Grey. Wallace begins his 21st year at the helm, and he owns a record of 441-107 for an .805 winning percentage.
