Dawgs in the Thick of it for LB

Toryan Smith is highly recruited LB prospect out of Rome, GA. His offer total has reached 33 so far and could even go higher depending on how he performs this year. With all those schools showing him so much attention, there could only be one that was the first to call him when the contact period began. That school was Georgia.

"Coach Bobo from Georgia was the 1st school to call me on September 1st. He called me at 5:30 that morning. I had about 30 different schools to call me on that day," Toryan Smith said.

Toryan then took a visit to check out the Dawgs a few weeks later.

"I went to the Georgia/South Carolina game. I got the chance to talk to most of the coaches before the game. Some people think that I'm not interested in Georgia, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. I have been there so many times that I don't need an official visit. My dad played there so there is not much they could show me that I haven't already seen. Georgia is very much in the thick of it."

Smith took his first official visit a few weeks back when he made the trek west to Oklahoma.

"I took a visit to Oklahoma on September 2nd. I had a great time. My host was Lamont Robinson and I really had a great time even though they lost. Man, I ate like a king. I think I gained 10 pounds on the visit they fed me so well."

He also spent some time with the Sooners coaching staff.

"I got to talk to coach Stoops at the end of the visit. He showed me their depth chart and talked to me about the schools that I'm interested in. He also talked to me about if I decided to go there how I could contribute next year."

Toryan is only has 4 official visits remaining.

"I have a visit set up to Notre Dame on October 15th. I also have a visit set up with Michigan on November 18th, and to Florida the next weekend on November 25th. There are about 8 schools that are trying to get my last visit."

Rome is 4-0 on the year and in his last game, Smith totaled 11 tackles with 1 forced fumble and an interception. He also hauled in a touchdown pass.
