Off Week: Thursday Practice Report

ATHENS – The No. 6 University of Georgia football team held the final workout of its bye week, practicing for more than two hours on Thursday afternoon at the Woodruff practice fields.

The Bulldogs practiced in shorts and shoulder pads as they continued their preparations for next week's SEC match-up at Tennessee.

Following practice it was announced that Josh Brock, a redshirt junior offensive guard from Cartersville, Ga., has been medically disqualified due to recurrent concussions. Brock will remain on athletic scholarship and work with the football team as a student coach.

"It's always tough on those guys," said Georgia head coach Mark Richt. "It's just not easy to stop doing something you have done as long as you can remember. I think his goal is to be a coach and he'll be able to do some things as a student assistant coach that a lot of people can't do (who are pursuing coaching). He'll get a couple of years of training that a lot of guys have to wait for until after they graduate."

Richt also announced after practice that the Georgia football team is going to be huddling up to help those who are still in need from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. According to Richt, the Georgia football team signed two helmets and two footballs that are going to be auctioned off on In addition, Richt also said the team signed several helmets and balls by position that will also be available in the auction which will take place within the next month. Richt said the idea came from redshirt freshman cornerback Benjamin Boyd.

"We are hoping that all of the Bulldog fans will be fired up about these items because not only are they nice to have, but they are also helping with a good cause as well," said Richt. "I thought it was a good idea by Benjamin and all of the guys were behind it and so hopefully it will bring in a lot of money to help those in need."

Next week's Georgia-Tennessee contest will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET and be nationally-televised by CBS.
