Georgia beats Vandy: Over/Under revisited

ATHENS - Dean Legge reviews the critical numbers in Georgia's 34-17 win over Vandy.

"10… That's how many years in a row that the Bulldogs have beaten Vandy. Georgia's last loss to Vanderbilt came in 1994's Homecoming game. Many think that game was the beginning of the end of Ray Goff's career as head coach. With a win today the Bulldogs will tie their longest winning streak in their games against Vandy."

Make that 11 – Georgia's 34-17 win wasn't the most memorable, however, as it seemed the Memorial Stadium crowd was asleep at times.

"400 yards… In that 1994 win over Georgia, the Commodores ran for 415 yards against Georgia. It is the last time Vanderbilt has run for 400 yards or more. It is also the last time the Bulldogs allowed 400 or more yards rushing. The last time Georgia ran for 400 yards or more was in 1990 – against Vandy."

Vanderbilt didn't run for 400 yards, but they did rack up more than any team the Bulldogs have faced besides Boise State. Georgia had 148 yards against Vandy.

"15 points… That's the most amount of points the Bulldogs have allowed this season (South Carolina)."

Again, Vanderbilt did better than most in the scoring department when faced with playing the Dawgs. Vandy's 17 points are the most points scored on Georgia since the Bulldogs beat Wisconsin at the 2005 Outback Bowl.

"Six wins… The last time the Bulldogs started their season with six consecutive wins they ended the season at 13-1 – champions of the SEC and Sugar Bowl."

Georgia got their sixth win – and winning the SEC and Sugar Bowl still seem possible. Nationally, however the Dawgs will need some help from the foes of Texas, Southern Cal or Virginia Tech to play in the BCS national title game.

"127 rushing yards… Vanderbilt rushed for 102 yards against MTSU and 25 against LSU (a 63.5 yards per game average) – Vandy lost both games. In their four previous games Vandy averaged 180 yards rushing per game and won all four games."

Vandy picked up their rushing efforts against the Dawgs. The Commodores ended the night with 150 yards rushing.

"100 yards rushing… Georgia is 4-0 when allowing less than 100 yards rushing. Boise State is the only team that rushed for more than 100 against the Bulldogs (169 yards)."

Georgia allowed more than 100 yards rushing.

"6 punts… Vandy has not won a game when punting six or more times this season. Georgia has punted six times only once this season – in last week's win over Tennessee."

Vandy is still winless when kicking six or more times. The Bulldogs only punted four times.
