Henderson looking to change the game

ATHENS – Mikey Henderson spoke with Dean Legge for a short time after one of Georgia's fall practices.

Dean Legge: Can you talk about the success you and Mike Gilliam have had on the punt team?

Mikey Henderson: The secret is just knowing and understanding that special teams can and will win us games. We need that phase of the game, just like we need offense and defense. We started talking about it at the start of the season. We are going to go out there and try to be the best. We are trying to take the stress off the other nine guys that are out there to protect on the punt. We are saying: "They can protect and make sure the punt gets off – we are going to do our best so that they can't get a return

How about playing in the secondary? It's been a year since your return from injury last season.

I haven't really been getting into the rotation because we've got excellent corners and then we have great backups. I have been getting limited to no playing time in the secondary, but that does not phase me because I just play the reps I get on special teams just like I was in the secondary.

You feel like you can change the game on special teams?

I think if I do my job – it's just as important as defense because we have to have special teams like we have to have offense and defense. I take those plays like it was a defensive snap that we could win or lose the game on.
