Southern Football Predictions

Dean Legge makes his weekly picks for the 23 schools in the South.

1. Virginia Tech – Still the best in the South – must-win game with Miami this week

2. AlabamaMississippi State stands no real shot of beating Tide – In control of the SEC West for now

3. Miami – Must-win game in Blacksburg

4. Georgia – Dawgs get a much-needed week off before Auburn, which will decide their fate in the East.

5. LSU – Two patsies in a row before big game at Bama

6. Florida – Gator offense was brutal against Dawgs – Florida still needs Georgia to lose to either Auburn or Kentucky to get to Atlanta

7. Florida State – Nearly lost to Maryland – not good

8. Auburn – On the outside of the SEC West race looking in

9. Georgia Tech – Ten points? With Wake Forest, Virginia, Miami and Georgia remaining, the Jackets had better jump-start the offense

10. South Carolina – Big win for program, but this is a 3-4 Tennessee team; still a big win for Cocks

11. Arkansas – Win over Cocks would keep slim bowl shot possible

12. Clemson – Just not that great – really never has been this season

13. Wake Forest – Need to upset Tech in Atlanta

14 Maryland – Playing close is not good enough

15. North Carolina – Playing close is not good enough

16. Ole Miss – Not ready for the big boys in the SEC

17. North Carolina State – Will probably lose all but one of their final games

18. Tennessee – Thud!

19. Virginia – Mediocre program

20. Vandy – Can beat Florida, but won't

21. Kentucky – Worst team in the SEC East, but better than Mississippi State!

22. Mississippi State – The worst team in the SEC

23. Duke – Very bad program – worst in the South just keeps going backwards
