Washington talks about freshmen playing

ATHENS – Marcus Washington spoke with Dean Legge for a short time after one of Georgia's fall practices.

Dean Legge: You, Jeff, C.J and other freshmen are getting a lot of playing time, it seems, on specials teams as well as defense.

Marcus Washington: We have been asked to step up and take certain roles with the defense, special teams and offense. You've got Mohamed Massaquoi – the guy is awesome. He's got great hands. It's undeniable that he's a good player. You've got Jeff Owens, who you can put out in the trenches and he's getting the job done.

Does his personality match the way he plays? He seems very happy off the field; on it he's sort of a beast.

Jeff is a real laid-back guy. He likes to have fun and joke around, but when it comes to playing on game day that's when it gets serious.

What would it have been like to have Tavares Kearney out there this year?

It would have been good. He brings a lot of speed to the table. Unfortunately we don't have him.
