Dogs' Humphrey Named SEC Freshman of the Week

ATHENS - Guard Billy Humphrey, whose free throws and steal in the final 10 seconds preserved Georgia's win at Western Kentucky on Saturday, was named SEC Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement Monday by the league office in Birmingham.

Humphrey, a 6-2, 175-pound native of Dacula, played key roles in both of Georgia's wins last week. At the Paradise Jam tournament, his 15 points (all in the second half) and 10 rebounds helped pace the Bulldogs to a 76-68 victory over Eastern Kentucky. Last Saturday at Western Kentucky, Humphrey sank two free throws in the final 15 seconds to give Georgia its final margin of victory.

He also foiled the Hilltoppers' last possession with a steal that prevented a potential game-tying shot.

Billy Humphrey is currently averaging 11.5 points and a team-high 5.0 rebounds per game for the 3-1 Bulldogs. He also leads the team in 3-point field-goal percentage, having made seven of his 12 attempts for 58.3 percent.
