Iona squad travels to face Lady Dogs

Georgia returns to action at Stegeman Coliseum for the second game in three days on Tuesday night when the Lady Bulldogs host Iona. On Sunday afternoon, guards Sherill Baker, Janese Hardrick and Alexis Kendrick accounted for all the points in a 9-0 run which helped Georgia gain some breathing room in its 72-66 victory over arch-rival Georgia Tech.

The Lady Bulldogs will face a team they defeated 96-52 last season. Last year's game was a pretty significant contest in the history of women's basketball as Andy Landers' secured his 700th career victory with Georgia's win over Iona. Landers became just the fifth major college women's basketball coach to reach that milestone.

Many of the same names which played a prominent role in last year's game will again be in action tonight.

Tasha Humphrey scored 22 points to lead Georgia, while Janese Hardrick, Cori Chambers and Sherill Baker chipped in 18, 14 and 11 points, respectively. For Iona, three starters Toni Horvath, Regan Pettijohn and Melissa Yeagley return, not to mention Tiara Headen, who scored 11 points off the bench against the Lady Bulldogs. Those folks are complimented by a pair on significant newcomers 6-5 Martina Weber and 6-2 Anna McLean.

"Iona is a much better basketball team than they were a year ago," Andy Landers said. "They have just about everyone back so have much greater experience than they had last season. They also have added some height in the middle where they actually may be bigger than us inside. As is the case in every game this season, we're going to have to play well to win."
