Dawgs Make Big Move

Atlanta LB Akeem Dent is a player rapidly rising up the recruiting charts in the state of Georgia. He's recently picked up offers from the likes of Florida and Georgia and he made his official visit to see the Dawgs this weekend. He came away so impressed that he says he's close to making a commitment and he talks all about his trip right here with Scout.com.

"It went real good. On a scale of 1 to 10 it would probably be about a 9. I'm definitely thinking about making a commitment. They're coming to see me in about 2 weeks I think and it's a strong possibility I could commit around then. I just want to take my time and make the right decision," Akeem Dent said.

Dent loved the people in Athens.

"The people was really the best. Everyone was real nice and I fit in really well. They weren't trying to beat around the bush and tell me lies, they were straight with me. I like the honesty there."

Akeem was also impressed with head coach Mark Richt.

"I sat down with Coach Richt and we talked. The gist of the whole thing was to follow my heart. He wants guys who want to come to Georgia and want to be there. Who want to win and who will work hard."

Bulldog freshman and former Douglass HS standout Roderick Battle, hosted Dent on his visit.

"Roderick Battle was my host. I hadn't seen him in a while so I had a chance to hang out with him and he told me how everything was. He thinks it's real nice and the location is as far as you want it to be. It can be a long distance thing if you want it that way or it can be right down the street."

One of things he liked most about the weekend was the football awards banquet known as the gala.

"I went to the gala on Friday night. I got to get dressed up and I loved how the whole team was recognized all the way from freshmen to seniors."

Dent loves the opporunties afforded to him at UGA.

"My favorite thing is knowing I'm not too far from home. Another thing is with me living in Georgia and getting a degree from UGA, I know I'll have a chance to work anywhere I want when I get out of college. That means a lot to me."

He was accompanied by his mother and uncle on the trip and each liked the experience a lot.

"My mom went with me and so did my uncle. She really liked Coach Richt and the people. She loved the whole environment."

Despite Dent leaning heavily to the Dawgs at the current time, he's still considering 2 other SEC programs and he has a visit pending to perhaps Georgia's biggest SEC-East rival.

"I'm also considering the University of Florida and Ole Miss. I go to Florida on January 13th and I went to Ole Miss on November 17th."

Will the Bulldogs land this in-state standout, or will the Gators or Rebels track them down? Stay tuned to Scout.com to find out...
