Richt: Early enrollees don't have to practice

ATHENS - Due to a new NCAA rule this year, Georgia's early enrolling freshman won't be allowed to practice with the team at the bowl site.

Richt said the team expected at least six of his incoming players to be on campus this week. Matthew Stafford, a quarterback from Dallas, Texas; John Miller, an offensive lineman from Cartersville; Kevin Perez, an offensive lineman from Miami, Fla.; Kris Durham, a wide receiver from Calhoun, and Asher Allen, a cornerback from Tucker, are five of them.

The newcomers could practice with Georgia in Athens, but will not be required to, Richt said.

"I didn't want to make it mandatory for such a short amount of time," he said. "If they want to, they can."
