Sugar Bowl: 12/20 Practice Report

ATHENS - The Georgia football team continued preparations for its Nokia Sugar Bowl contest with West Virginia by holding a pair of workouts Monday at the Woodruff Practice Fields.

The Bulldogs practiced for about 90 minutes both in the morning and in the evening. Georgia will practice in Athens for the final time on Wednesday morning, then the players will be released to go home for Christmas. The team will reconvene in Atlanta on Dec. 27.

"It was a good day," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "We've gotten in a lot of fundamentals work this week. It didn't take the guys long after exams to get it going again. If we played in a couple of days, I'd feel pretty good. Now they're getting a few more days off, so hopefully we can get it going again in Atlanta. We've had some physical practices. The more you allow the guys to compete, the more exciting it is."

Richt said the highlight of the evening session came at the end of practice when offensive lineman Chester "Big Cheese" Adams sang "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire" in front of the team. By doing so, Adams secured a reprieve from conditioning work for the entire squad.

Georgia fans are encouraged to show their support on game day at the Dog Walk which will be held Jan. 2 at 6:25 p.m. outside the Georgia Dome near the Gold Deck. It is the same location where Georgia held it before the SEC Championship Game.

Kickoff for the Nokia Sugar Bowl will be Jan. 2 at 8:30 p.m., and the game will be televised by ABC.
