Georgia faces Florida in the first round

*The Bulldogs enter the SEC Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., as the sixth seed and will face 11th-ranked Florida (40-15, 20-10 SEC), the third seed, at 11 am ET Wednesday at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium and be televised by CSS-TV. Live stats will be available only through www.sec.org.

In SEC Tournament history, Georgia is 7-2 against Florida. This season the Gators won the series 2-1 in Gainesville and own a 143-64-2 edge in records dating back to 1950.

The other game in Georgia's half of the bracket features second-seed and Western Division champion Alabama versus seventh seed Mississippi State at 2 pm ET. Bracket two includes SEC champion South Carolina, fourth seed LSU, fifth seed Auburn and eighth seed Arkansas.

*Georgia is 19-26 in 13 SEC Tournament appearances and its best finish has been second in 1985, 1986 and 1989. The only two times that Georgia went 0-2 at the tournament (1987 and 1990), the Bulldogs advanced to the College World Series.

*Georgia's 15 SEC wins under David Perno is the most by a first-year Bulldog coach. Perno's 30 overall wins ranks second in school history among Georgia baseball coaches in their first year, trailing only Ron Polk's 32 in 2000. Polk went 32-26 overall and 14-15 in the SEC in his first year here.

*The Bulldogs have dropped a season-high five straight games including four straight against nationally-ranked opponents. The first two games were on the road in extra innings (Auburn, #12 Ga. Tech) followed by the USC series. For the year, Georgia is 6-11 against ranked opponents.

*Junior OF Chaz Lytle has tied the school record for Hits in a season as he leads the SEC with 102 (102-for-257). Lytle is batting .397 with 3 HRs, 36 RBI and 30 stolen bases. His 30 SB ties the Georgia record as well.

*Junior 1B Justin McClain (.338-9-32) has a career-best 12-game hitting streak. In the USC series, he batted .429 (6-14) with 2 HRs and 5 RBI.

*Senior OF Adam Swann (.360-12-41) is riding an eight-game hitting streak and has hit 10 of his 12 home runs this year in SEC games. Swann is batting a team-best .387-10-29 in SEC games. Swann ranks second in school history with 66 career doubles including a team-best 13 this year.
