Kendall's Take: Georgia hosts Clemson

ATHENS - Josh Kendall takes a look at the basketball matchup between Clemson and Georgia.

Georgia vs. Clemson
Time/place: Today, 7 p.m., Stegeman Coliseum, Athens, Ga.
Broadcast: Fox SportsNet South
Records: Georgia is 7-3, Clemson is 11-0

About Clemson: The Tigers are one of the surprises of the ACC this season. Clemson is coming off a tournament title at the San Juan Shootout. … The Tigers' most impressive win this year was a 19-point shellacking of South Carolina earlier this month. … Clemson has a balanced attack but is led by junior guard Vernon Hamilton, who is averaging 12.2 points per game. Guard Shawan Robinson, a reserve, is next with 11.7 per game, and the team's top six players all average more than seven per game.

About Georgia: The Bulldogs haven't won a game in 18 days. They started the season 7-1 but dropped road games to Oregon State and Nevada and then took a seven-day holiday break. … The trip out west slowed freshman Billy Humphrey a bit. The freshman scored in single digits in both games but remains the team's leading scorer with 12.6 points per game. … Georgia needs one more win to match last year's victory total.

Scouting report: In the first regular-season matchup between these teams on a campus site in 41 years, guards will be the difference. The Tigers have the edge in experience as their top two guards are a junior and a senior. Georgia only has one upperclassman at guard. Both teams play great defense at the guard position. The Tigers lead the ACC with 11.91 steals per game. If Georgia forward Younes Idrissi can match the career-high 16 points he had against Nevada last week, that could tilt the scale in the Bulldogs' favor.
