Tasha Humphrey Named SEC Player Of The Week

ATHENS - Georgia sophomore Tasha Humphrey, a 6-3, forward from Gainesville, Ga., was tabbed the SEC Player of the Week on Monday by the league office in Birmingham after averaging 22.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in the Lady Bulldogs' wins over Ole Miss and Florida last week.

"Tasha Humphrey has a terrific week, a spectacular week," head coach Andy Landers said. "Not only did she put up big numbers, but her points were critical to her team's success. She also rebounded the ball extremely well. This is a most deserved honor."

In the SEC opener at Ole Miss, Humphrey helped Georgia rally from an early eight-point deficit. With the Lady Dogs trailing 24-16, Humphrey scored 10 unanswered points. She finished with 29 points and nine rebounds in Georgia's 84-70 victory over the Lady Rebels.

On Sunday, Humphrey scored 26 points and collected 15 rebounds in just 29 minutes of action in an 89-70 win over Florida. Humphrey missed the last nine minutes of the first half after picking up her second foul but returned to score 19 points and haul in nine boards in the second stanza.

Humphrey's effort against Florida represented her sixth double-double of the season and the 20th in 46 games played at Georgia.

Last weekend, Humphrey also moved atop the SEC's scoring leaders ledger. She is currently averaging 20.2 points and also ranks among the league's individual leaders in rebounds (5th at 9.3), free throw percentage (7th at .841), field goal percentage (10th at .557) and blocks (12th at 1.15).

The Lady Bulldogs (11-3, 2-0 SEC) will be back in action this Thursday when they travel to Knoxville to play top-ranked Tennessee (15-0, 1-0) at7:00 p.m. That contest will be televised by FOX SNS, the second of six consecutive TV appearances for Georgia.

On Sunday, Georgia will co-host the Russell Athletic Shootout at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. The Lady Bulldogs will face Miami in the SEC vs. ACC doubleheader at approximately 3:00 p.m. Georgia Tech faces Kentucky in the first game at 12:30 p.m.
