Kendall's Take: Dawgs filling in future games

ATHENS – Georgia added four opponents – including a high-profile team and a familiar face -- to its future schedules this week, athletic director Damon Evans announced Tuesday.

Louisville, which the Bulldogs will play in Athens in 2011 and in Kentucky in 2012, is the most recognizable team in the group. The most recognizable name is former defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder, who took over as Georgia Southern's head coach last month and will bring his Eagles to Athens in 2008.
The Bulldogs also added games against Western Carolina in 2007 and Appalachian State in 2009. Those games will be played in Sanford Stadium, and Georgia will not play a return game.
The Cardinals could provide the Bulldogs with a tough test. Louisville finished 11-1 and in the nation's top 10 in 2004 before dipping some this year to finish 9-3.
"Georgia is one of the benchmark programs in the country," Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich said. "We've made great strides in improving our schedule and adding a home-and-home series with a Georgia will only help improve the quality of our schedule."
It will be just the second meeting between the Bulldogs and Western Carolina. Georgia won the first meeting 48-0 in 1991. Appalachian State won the Division I-AA national title this season and has never played the Bulldogs.
VanGorder's Eagles have become a regular in Sanford Stadium, playing there in 1992, 2000 and 2004 and losing each time.
This week's additions leave Georgia with just one more game to add to complete its 2007 schedule. The 2006 schedule was previously finalized. Also this week, the Bulldogs announced the have moved the Sept. 1, 2007 game against Troy to Nov. 3, 2007, making it a rare non-conference game played after the start of the SEC schedule.
