Did Riley and Sheppard make it to Knoxville?
"I went up there on Friday and Kelvin drove up on Saturday for an unofficial," Riley told Tiger Rag. "I had a good time. It was fun and all but I'm still solid to LSU."
That was just the exact response the LSU coaches were hoping to hear.
In fact, LSU linebackers coach Bradley Dale Peveto called Riley on Sunday while he was on his way home from Knoxville to check in on two of his prized recruits.
"He called and I told him that we were both still committed to the Tigers," Riley said. "He was like "that is good and I can't wait to get you two guys down here to coach you."
Sometimes when a recruit is committed to a school but visits another one he will question his decision and start to second guess his pledge. While that does happen in some cases, it never entered Riley's mind on his trip.
"I never really thought about it like that," he said. "I basically went up there to see what they had to offer and that was it."
So how did Tennessee stack up to LSU?
"They were about the same facility wise but that was about it," said Riley. "Tennessee was kind of in the country and I liked the city of Baton Rouge a lot more. I also felt like I had a better relationship with the coaches and players at LSU."
Georgia was making a strong push for Riley's signature over the last couple of months but the Bulldogs are no longer in the picture.
"I told the Georgia coaches a few weeks ago that LSU was the place for me and after that they stopped calling," said Riley.
Riley said Peveto will be traveling to Stephenson on Wednesday to meet with he and Sheppard and then Les Miles is scheduled to make his in-home visit either on Sunday or early next week.
After that he said there is nothing left but for him to fax his national letter-of-intent on signing day so that he will officially become an LSU Tiger.
"I can't wait to make it official," Riley said. "I'm ready."
Riley said he is fully qualified with a 2.6 core GPA and a 1,410 on the new version of the SAT.
