Georgia Makes BIG Impression

Stafon Johnson is one of the biggest recruits to officially visit the Classic City in 2006. He showed up to Athens on Friday and stayed three days in the Peach State coming away with a newfound appreciation for Georgia. The Dawgs made a big impression and he went back to California with a lot of things to think about.

"It was cool. I'd probably give a 9 and a half," Stafon Johnson said.

Athens has been called the quintessential college town by many over the years and Stafon was drawn in by it as well.

"The town alone is a great town. It's a family type environment. It's just a cool place period. I loved Athens. Everybody just loves Georgia there. Georgia is Athens."

The Bulldogs starting RB Thomas Brown hosted Stafon on his trip but he was also accompanied by Bulldog safety Kelin Johnson most of the weekend as well.

"Thomas Brown was my host. He's a real cool dude. He's part of the reason that sold me on Georgia. He showed me a real good time. Kelin also hung out with us and he's more of my type of personality. He cracks jokes a lot. He's a real cool dude too. Like I said, it was just like a family atmosphere."

What all did he do with the current players?

"We stayed in the dorms and hung out a lot. They took me around and introduced me to everybody. I got to meet a lot of the players."

With visits already taken to USC and Washington, Stafon felt that the facilities at UGA were the best he's seen thus far.

"I have not seen any place better than the facilities there. Everything out there is just different from anything I've seen."

The Georgia coaches did the best they could to make a lasting impression before taking him to the airport in Atlanta.

"They told me a lot of good stuff. Stuff a lot of people would love to hear that's being recruited. It's just the stuff that sells you. Coach Richt is a real cool person, a very religious person and he's true to that. He's very family oriented and he leads his team that way. His family is also a big part of the program themselves."

The visit has left three teams still with a chance to earn his signature on signing day.

"Right now it's either Washington, Georgia or USC. I'm not sure if anyone is ahead or anything. February 1st is when I will announce. I may be doing it on TV but I'm not sure where."

The Dawgs will send head coach Mark Richt as well as a few assistants to Los Angeles on Wednesday for a final meeting with Johnson.

"Georgia is coming to see me on Wednesday. I'm not sure of any other ones with other schools after that."

Will Stafon stay on the west coast and play for the Huskies or the Trojans? Or will he head east to play for the Bulldogs of Georgia? Stay tuned to to find out…
