Top-Ranked Gym Dogs Travel to Florida

ATHENS - The No. 1-ranked Georgia Gym Dogs will travel to Florida to face the No. 5 Gators at 7 p.m. on Friday night at the O'Connell Center.

These two teams faced each other in five different meets a year ago with Georgia winning three of those. The Gym Dogs defeated the Gators in the Super Six Challenge, the SEC Championship and the NCAA Prelim session. Florida won a dual meet in Athens as well as the Southeast Regional.

The Gym Dogs (6-0) are at the top of the national rankings for the second consecutive week and it¹s their floor and vault lineups that have them there. Georgia has the best average score of any team in the country on the floor exercise, and the 49.4 team total from the Cancun Classic remains the highest in the nation.

Three of the top four positions in the individual national rankings on the floor exercise are occupied by Gym Dogs this week including SEC Gymnast of the Week Kelsey Ericksen in first with a 9.925 against Arkansas. Katie Heenan is in third and Courtney Kupets is in fourth. Stanford¹s Tabitha Yim is ranked second on floor.

The Gym Dogs also lead all teams with their vaulting average as well as their single-meet high of 49.55 last week against Arkansas. A year ago it took the Gym Dogs until the Super Six Finals at the NCAA Championships to score that high on the vault. Georgia¹s 49.55 against the Razorbacks was highlighted by Heenan¹s career-best 9.975 in the fourth position of the lineup.
