Dawgs set for hoops matchup with Auburn

ATHENS - Georgia hits the road for the second time this week when it travels to Auburn for a Saturday afternoon SEC contest. The Bulldogs arrive at this game with a 12-7 overall record, 2-4 in the SEC, in fifth place in the Eastern Division standings. Most recently, they were defeated 81-52 by a red-hot LSU team in Baton Rouge on Wednesday night. The Tigers shot 56 percent in a 50-point first half and cruised to their fifth SEC victory in as many games.

Georgia vs. Auburn

• Despite the outcome Wednesday, Georgia maintains a 4-game improvement in the W/L ledger from last season. In addition, the Bulldogs have already matched their SEC victory total from last year, with 10 league contests remaining.

• If Georgia is to right its wayward trek, it must buck recent history. Bulldog teams have gone 1-6 at Auburn since the SEC was pared into divisions in 1992. The lone victory came during an overtime affair in that first season of divisional play. Three of the six losses were by three points, including the past two (2002-04).

In last year's only meeting, Georgia got its second (and last) SEC victory of the season, a 57-45 decision on Feb. 19 in Athens.

Georgia - Auburn Series

• Today's game is the 169th all-time meeting between these two schools in basketball. The series, which began in 1908 and has been renewed annually since 1928, is tied at 84 wins apiece. This record does not exclude one Georgia victory in 2003 that was later vacated because of NCAA sanctions.
