Tennis Set To Host Season-Opener

ATHENS, Ga. The No. 3 University of Georgia men¹s tennis team gets the dual-match portion of its schedule underway against the 32nd-ranked Louisville Cardinals on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. The match will be held at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Admission to all matches is free.

³This is a day that all of our guys have been waiting for,² said Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz. ³They put in a lot of work in the fall with their early morning workouts and developed a good team spirit. Now we are very excited and looking forward to the team portion of our season. What concerns me a little bit is that we could definitely be healthier. It is a little bit worrisome to be dealing with some injuries this early in the season. We just have to really buckle down as a team and be ready to play on Sunday to the best of our abilities.²

Louisville will have already played four matches by the time they reach the Peach State. The Cardinals are currently undefeated and will put their 3-0 record on the line against the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, Miss. on Friday.

Louisville is led by Damar Johnson at the No. 1 singles spot and Slavko Radman in the No. 2 position. Johnson is 2-1 on the year while Radman is 2-0.

The last meeting between these two teams came in 2005, a match that saw Georgia capture a 6-1 win over the then 39th-ranked Cardinals at the Hopkins Indoor Courts. With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 2-0 all time against Louisville.

Georgia is coming off of a dominant performance at the SEC Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky., which saw three Bulldogs reach the semifinals of the singles draw with Matic Omerzel advancing to the finals. Georgia guaranteed itself its' second consecutive SEC Indoor doubles championship as both teams in the final match hailed from UGA.
