No. 1 Gym Dogs Host LSU

ATHENS - The top-ranked Gym Dogs return home this weekend for a dual meet on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Stegeman Coliseum against No. 14 LSU.

Georgia has won four straight meets to open the season, and hasn¹t won five in a row at the beginning of a year since 1999 when the Gym Dogs finished as the undefeated national champions.

For about two hours last Friday night, the Gym Dogs had the top score in the nation when they posted a 197.025-196.6 win over the fifth-ranked Florida Gators. Nearly two hours later Utah won at home with a 197.2. A year ago it took Georgia until the ninth meet of the season to break the 197 mark.

It was a big jump in the scores for one night all over the country. Entering last week¹s competitions Alabama had the best score with a 196.15, but four teams broke that by the end of the weekend (Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Utah).

Georgia and LSU faced each other in two different meets a year ago with Georgia winning one. The Gym Dogs defeated the Tigers in the SEC Championship and LSU won a dual meet in Baton Rouge.

Georgia freshman Courtney Kupets last week placed first in all three events she entered at the Florida meet with a 9.9 on vault, a 9.95 on bars and a 9.925 on beam. Kelsey Ericksen and Katie Heenan finished 1-2 in the all-around with season-high scores of 39.5 and 39.425.
