Ward recruited Georgia

ATHENS – As it turns out, Georgia didn't so much recruit Na Derris Ward as Ward recruited the Bulldogs. At least that's the way Coach Mark Richt tells the story.

Na Derris Ward, the nation's No. 3 tight end according to Scout.com, grew up in Oakland, Calif., and "had offers from everybody on that side of the country," Richt said.

"His (high school) coach said, ‘Everybody's recruiting you. Where do you want to go?"

Ward said he wanted to see what the Bulldogs had to offer.

"So they send the tape, and this guy's at least 6-5, 250, can really run well, has got giant paws, can really snatch the ball. Everything you are looking for in a tight end, he's got it. We're just glad he told his coach he was interested in us, and I'm thankful his coach took the time to send the tape out here."

Ward had 20 catches and five touchdowns as a senior.
