Tennis stays ranked #2

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The University of Georgia men's tennis team (4-0) received a national ranking of No. 2 for the third straight week, according to the Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings, released by the ITA Tuesday afternoon.

"With so many teams from the SEC at the top of the rankings, it is really a testament to the overall strength of our conference," said Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz. "We're doing our best not to pay too much attention to the rankings though. We just want to get ourselves healthy and ready to compete at the National Team Indoors this weekend."

Georgia trails only Florida, who holds the unanimous No. 1 ranking, receiving all 10 first-place votes. Other SEC teams in the Top 10 are Ole Miss (No. 5) and South Carolina (No. 10). In the top 25, LSU (No. 15), Tennessee (No. 17), Kentucky (No. 19) and Mississippi State (No. 21) get into the mix.

"More than anything so far this season, we have been able to show just what kind of depth and talent our squad has with all of the nagging injuries we've suffered," said Diaz. "This weekend's tournament and the weeks ahead will be big tests for our team, that's when we will find out what we're really made of."

Georgia holds the No. 2 seed in the upcoming National Team Indoors and will take on 15th-seeded Colorado in the first round on Friday, Feb. 17, at 5:30 p.m. EST. The tournament is being held in Seattle, Wash. and is being hosted by the University of Washington.
