Class of 2006: Knowshon Moreno

Dean Legge reviews each of Georgia's 27 commitments in the class of 2006.

Knowshon Moreno
Running Back
(Middletown South) Belford, NJ
Rank: 9 Rating: ****

THE STATS: Moreno finished his high school career with 128 touchdowns and 782 points…New Jersey's all-time leading scorer…rushed for 1,808 yards on 185 carries and scored 43 touchdowns in 10 games as a senior…his 6,268 career rushing yards is second all-time in New Jersey.

HONORS: Parade Magazine All-American... PrepStar 200... New Jersey top 50… #9 running back in the nation …EA Sports All-American…led Middletown South to three championships in a row…

FINAL WORD: Moreno is the running back everyone pointed to as the future answer at the position. It may have been his late commitment to the Dawgs or his All-American status – either way Moreno excited the Georgia fan base. But that fan base will have to take a deep breath and wait to see what he can do. Moreno will enter fall camp no better than the number four running back – behind Thomas Brown, Kregg Lumpkin and Danny Ware. It's hard to think Georgia will burn Moreno's first season to have him sit behind three former starters who are entering their third seasons in Athens.

With that said, Georgia has used several young running backs lately. It seems every season those young backs got their chance due to injury. Also, running back is the one spot where you can never have enough players. Brown and Lumpkin both injured themselves at start of their first camps, and that hurt their chances during their rookie seasons. Moreno has to avoid that mistake: considering the depth at his spot, a redshirt would seem automatic if he gets hurt in August.
