Perez getting used to college ball

ATHENS – Kevin Perez spoke with Dean Legge for a short time about Georgia's spring practices.

Dean Legge: How has college football been so far?

Kevin Perez: College football, so far, has been everything they say and more. It's awesome to be out here with one of the best Division I colleges there is. It's an honor to be out here, so I am just trying to make every day worthwhile.

You have practiced in 40-degree weather in Athens. Have you ever been in 40-degree weather before?

I was just in Miami for spring break and we had 80 degrees down there. The only time I have ever been cold (37 degrees) was in my high school state playoffs when we played in Gainesville, and that was in December.

Is that another reason for you not to like Gainesville? How do you get to the point to where you get playing time in the fall?

With the opportunity that I have right now; I am second team right now. I am getting just as many reps as the first teamers and I have to make it worthwhile. I have a great opportunity right now, and this is the reason I came in early. Hopefully the coaches won't have to replace me, and the will keep me in the second unit.

Have you watched Nick Jones quite a bit?

He's all I watch. I would watch him while I was watching TV at home because he was my size. His technique is one of the best on the team. Coach Callaway tells me to watch him, so obviously I am going to watch him more. He's the guy in front of me, and he's been staring for a couple of seasons now – he knows what to do. I want to look up to him; I want to be like him.
