Top-Ranked Georgia Tennis Heads To Starkville

ATHENS ­ The unbeaten and No. 1-ranked University of Georgia men¹s tennis team (19-0, 8-0 SEC) will take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-7, 4-10 SEC) Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m. EST, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville, Miss.

The 61st-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs enter the match looking to improve their standing in the SEC following four straight conference losses. The two teams of Bulldogs last met in Athens in the quarterfinals of the 2005 SEC Tournament, a match that resulted in a 4-0 Georgia victory. Georgia holds an all-time record of 43-9 against Mississippi State.

Georgia faces an ever-changing lineup in Mississippi State which is anchored by junior Ivan Bjelica and sophomore Pierre Mouillon. Bjelica has primarily been playing at the number one and two spots where he holds records of 4-7 and 2-0, respectively. Mouillon has seen action in positions one through four and is slated to play at No. 1 Friday afternoon.

The Georgia Bulldogs¹ last result came in a 7-0 sweep of then-No. 71 Vanderbilt on April 2 in Athens. Junior John Isner (Greensboro, N.C.) will enter the Mississippi State contest riding a 17-match unbeaten streak and will look to enhance the best singles record in the conference this season. Senior tri-captain Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.) is currently carrying a 12-match unbeaten run while sophomore Luis Flores (Xalapa, Mexico) has put together an eight-match winning streak of his own. Doubles action has been highlighted by the eight-match winning run of Flores and junior Matic Omerzel (Kranj, Slovenia).

After the Mississippi State match, Georgia will travel to Oxford for a 2 p.m. Sunday battle with the No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels.
