Enjoying the Moment

Kellie Middleton may be new to the Bulldogs, but she is not new to success. The junior outfielder is a transfer from Notre Dame where she already graduated with degrees in biology and psychology. Now she is getting her masters in public health and then will attend medical school. On the field she is lighting things up as well. This season, she leads the Dawgs in average, runs, doubles and stolen bases. The Vols come in the weekend with the SEC East on the line and you know she will be ready.

Dave McMahon -- Last season at Notre Dame you batted a respectable .295, had 19 RBI and stole 25 bases. So far this season you are batting .428, have 37 rbi and have stolen 33 bases, what is the difference of this season and last?

Kellie Middleton -- It's this environment. Everything about Georgia is about success. They are always encouraging success. It's all about enjoying the moment.

DM -- You are batting .428, how hard is it to bat .400 in a season?

KM -- I don't even think about it. In softball or baseball you can't think about a season at a time. You think about every at-bat, you think of every pitch. You have to stay focused and play for each moment.

DM -- The whole team is batting over .300, do you all feed off each other?

KM -- Yes, this is a pretty awesome team. We all feed off each other. We all encourage each other a lot, and conversely we make sure that if certain players are doing bad, we stop that as well.

DM -- Last week, the team struggled vs Alabama, now you face Tennessee... what does the team need to do differently this week?

KM -- We know what we have to do. This game is 90% mental, we just have to go out there a play the way we are capable of.

DM -- After you graduated from Notre Dame, why did you choose to transfer to Georgia?

KM -- I love Georgia! I have known Coach Lu (Harris-Champer) since 7th grade. I love how intense games are and how practices are. Everything about this school is great!

DM -- You come from a very athletic family... can you list all the athletes in your family?

KM -- Let me see... My father played college basketball at Gannon University... my mother played basketball... but not in college, my brother William is playing football at Furman... my brother Wyatt has committed to play football for the Naval Academy... my sister plays for 3 different sports in high school... my uncle played basketball in college with my father... I also have cousins that play sports for Harvard and Mercer... I think there is more.

DM -- That is an impressive list, well thank you for your time and good luck vs the Vols.
