A Clean Sweep

Freshman left-hander Nathan Moreau pitched 8+ strong innings and allowed just 3 runs as Georgia defeated South Carolina 7-4. Moreau improved to 6-1 on the season. It was the first ever sweep over the Gamecocks in school history. The Bulldogs have now won 7 in a row and are now 13-11 in the SEC. The Dawgs now are 2nd in the SEC East and will travel to Auburn next weeked, but first they take on Georgia Tech on Wednesday at Turner Field. After the game, Moreau had a chance to talk to me.

Dave McMahon -- Was this your best game as a Georgia Bulldog?

Nathan Moreau -- Yes. This was my best game yet. I had all 3 pitches working today. I spotted my fastball well, especially through the first 6 innings.

DM -- You were shutting out South Carolina out for 8 innings, and then you ran into trouble in the 9th... how much did you want that complete game?

NM -- That would have been great. I thought I had enough, even after the leadoff double in the 9th, I was ahead of the next two batters, but they got on. I guess that was it.

DM -- Mickey Westphal and Brooks Brown pitched great games on Friday and Saturday, did they help you and give you pointers before today's game?

NM -- They told me to just keep them off balanced. They are a good hitting team, so the more off balanced they are, the better.

DM -- How great is it to have a guy like Joshua Fields come in there for you?

NM -- It's a great feeling. He is really good. He came in all 3 games this weekend and got 2 saves. He could have got a save on Friday, but we had too much of a lead.

DM -- Winning SEC games is what it is all about, but this Wednesday the Dawgs face the Yellow Jackets at Turner Field, how big is this game for the team?

NM -- It is very big. The series is 1-1 this season, so this game decides it. Myself and a lot of the players in this game were recruited by both teams.

DM -- Before going to school at Georgia, have you ever seen a game between Georgia and Georgia Tech?

NM -- I saw the game my sophomore year in high school. I got to play at Turner Field before the game and after our game I stayed and watched Georgia play Tech.

DM -- Thanks for your time and good luck the rest of the season.
