Good Knight

Courtney Knight has thrived ever since she arrived to Athens 4 years ago. This season the senior from Lithonia is 2nd on the Bulldogs with a .368 average. She is also in the top-5 in several of Georgia's career marks including: highest average, most hits, doubles, triples and runs batted in. This Friday Georgia hosts Georgia Southern in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament. In softball, the Dawgs have never advanced to the College World Series, but Courtney tells me this year may be different.

Dave McMahon -- As a senior, this is your last chance to reach the College World Series, can this year's team do it?

Courtney Knight -- I think so. We are so talented this year and we have so much heart. We are so together as a team.

DM -- The last 2 years, you have done great in the NCAA Regionals (12-27 - .444 avg) do you put extra pressure on yourself in these big games?

CK -- No, I do what I always do, no matter what the game is. I just like hitting the ball hard every time.

DM -- This is such a tough lineup... is this the best lineup you have been a part of since you arrived here?

CK -- Yes. This lineup is great... I think we might even intimidate other pitchers.

DM -- Friday, you and your team play Georgia Southern, you defeated them twice earlier this year, what do you remember about them?

CK -- I remember we won, but I did not get a hit. They are a team that it is easy to underestimate. We just got to play hard.

DM -- How great is it that you get to play the regional in front of your home crowd in Athens?

CK -- It is always great. We have an incredible hometown crowd.

DM -- Your father played professional baseball in the minors... what did he teach you about the game?

CK -- He taught me that 'first you see it and then you hit it'. My mother tries to teach me, too. My parents go to all my games, home and away, it is great having them there.

DM -- Thank you for your time and good luck in the NCAA's.

Georgia's first game is vs Georgia Southern on Friday at 7:30 pm. The winner will play the winner of the Florida State vs Coastal Carolina game on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
