It Takes Two

Georgia's softball team defeated Georgia Southern on Saturday 11-6, but it was after they lost to Florida State 3-2. This means that Georgia has to defeat FSU twice on Sunday to advance in the NCAA Tournament. In the 2nd game, the Dawgs pounded 13 hits including home runs by Megan McAllister and Courtney Knight. On the mound, Kasi Carroll recorded her 29th win of the season by pitching 7 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 0 earned runs and striking out 10. After the game she had a chance to talk.

Dave McMahon -- You got the loss vs Florida State and then defeated Georgia Southern, runs were scoring left and right and there was a one hour lightning delay, all in all it was a crazy day...

Kasi Carroll -- Today was a really long day. It was bizarre, but we have to be ready tomorrow.

DM -- You defeated Georgia Southern 4-0 on Friday, but they kept on fighting today.

KC -- They are a very gritty team. They are definately deserving to be in this tournament.

DM -- In the first game vs FSU, Georgia failed to score on several opportunities, vs Georgia Southern they capitalized.

KC -- It was great. That is the way we are capable of playing. We have such a great lineup... anyone on our team is capable of driving home runs.

DM -- When you are not pitching, how much do you watch other pitchers?

KC -- Constantly. I am always watching and trying to find holes of my opponents.

DM -- Games like this... is this why you became a pitcher?

KC -- I have been a pitcher since I have been 7 years old. I guess I like being under pressure.

DM -- You have pitched 21 innings since Friday, do you know if you are pitching the first game tomorrow?

KC -- Not yet. My arm is ready to go. My job is to eat up innings. I will go as long as they want me to.

DM -- Thank you and good luck on Sunday.

The first game on Sunday vs FSU is at noon at the Georgia softball complex.
