Fields of Dreams

Sophomore Joshua Fields has been amazing all year. Last year, Fields had a ERA of 7.00. This year he has an ERA of 1.77 and has 14 saves. The 14 saves is one shy of a Georgia record held by Alex Barylak in 1993. More importantly the right-hander is doing it when it counts, notching 10 saves in SEC action, holding the opponents to a .179 average. This Wednesday the Bulldogs will play Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament. Who knows if they will need Joshua Fields? But if they do he will be ready.

Dave McMahon -- The team just finished playing 8 games in 10 days and you pitched in 5 of them, do you need a rest?

Joshua Fields -- No. In the beginning of the season you need rest so your arm can get ready. Now it's the end and I just want to go out there.

DM -- What is it like being the closer?

JF -- I love coming in because the crowd gets restless and they are anticipating a win. It is a great feeling.

DM -- Who is your favorite closer in the major leagues?

JF -- Mariano Rivera. He has such a great presence. The way he goes about his job, he is so great.

DM -- You come in and you throw heat... what is the fastest you've been clocked at?

JF -- Last week vs Kentucky I reached 98.

DM -- Earlier this year in Orlando you talked to ESPN's Peter Gammons, what was that like?

JF -- It was great because I would always watch him on "Baseball Tonight." I didn't expect it but we talked about baseball and the Cape Cod summer leagues.

DM -- Being from the Athens area, how many Georgia games did you go to growing up?

JF -- I went to some until I decided that I was going here and then I went to a lot of them.

DM -- Favorite memory as a fan...

JF -- 2004 Regional vs Clemson. Those were incredible games.

DM -- Feelings as you head into your first SEC Tournament...

JF -- Don't know what to expect. We had to make it this year since we didn't last year. That was a goal of ours.

DM -- Thank you and good luck this postseason.
