Who is Jacksonvillle?

I know most of you know a little more about Jacksonville University, compared to Sacred Heart. The Dolphins will be Florida State in the first game of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Athens. Georgia may have to play Jacksonville eventually, so here is a little more information on them.

Jacksonville University is in its 11th NCAA Tournament and their 3rd in the last 6 years. The last year they were in the tourney was 2003.

Their record is 42-17 and they won the Atlantic Sun regular season title. This season was their 8th 40-win season overall and their first since 1999. They were good away from Jacksonville as well as they had a 18-4 record on the road this season.

Terry Alexander is the head coach. This is his 16th season as the Jacksonville head coach. He has won 532 games and won the Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year this season. He played collegiate baseball at FSU (who happens to be JU's opponent on Friday).

(Maybe you will see Coach Alexander climbing Kudzu Hill. He has already climbed Mt. McKinley and Mt. Kilimanjaro.)

The Dolphins are a great hitting team with a team average of .317. Their leading hitter is Daniel Murphy who is batting .394. Mike McCallister is their leading home run and rbi producer hitting 10 homers and 52 runs batted in this season. The team is also very speedy as 3 players have over 15 on the year.

Matt Dobbins is their ace. This season the southpaw is 12-0 with a 2.79 ERA. As a whole the pitching staff has allowed just 33 home runs in 529 2/3 innings.

Jacksonville has played Florida State 4 times this year, losing all 4 by a combined score of 27-6.

Jacksonville might be more known as a basketball school. Former alumni include former All-Star Artis Gilmore and Slam Dunk Championship Dee Brown. One of their former basketball head coaches is one of our former head coaches, Hugh Durham.

I also think they play a college football game in Jacksonville, Florida and I am not talking about the ACC Championship!
