Two Away

The last time the Georgia Bulldogs reached the College World Series was in 2004. That season pitcher Mickey Westphal was being redshirted while he was recovering from shoulder surgery. Now the southpaw has another chance. If the Dawgs defeat South Carolina twice they will advance to Omaha. Saturday morning is Game One, and Westphal will get the start.

Dave McMahon -- How hungry is the team to get back to Omaha and the College World Series?

Mickey Westphal -- We are definately hungry. That is what we have all been working for all year. I was talking to Jason Jacobs about all we need is 2 wins to get to the promise land, but we also realize that 2 losses and we will be watching instead.

DM -- You have played South Carolina 4 times this season and won, tell me about them...

MW -- We have seen them all year. We know what they got and they know what we got, so no one has an advantage. One thing we do have is our crowd.

DM -- Was last week the loudest you have heard a crowd at Foley Field?

MW -- Definately. Last Monday vs FSU was the loudest I have ever heard here. Our fans were great all game.

DM -- Your teammate, Joey Side has been on fire lately...

MW -- One word describes him... unconscious. He did it all last week. He just kept on hitting and he made great plays in the field.

DM -- After the team lost, Georgia needed 3 wins and got it with help from 3 freshmen starting pitchers....

MW -- The freshmen helped us out a lot. They have been doing it all season. It is not just the pitchers, Gordon Beckham has stepped it up. All of our freshmen have been playing great.

DM -- Also last week the bullpen really stepped it up...

MW -- They sure did. On Monday I went out to the bullpen in case they needed me. But later in the game Rip Warren and Joshua Fields came to the bullpen. You know the game is going well when you see Warren and Fields.

Thank you for your time and good luck vs South Carolina. Game 1 is Saturday at 11:00 am et. Game 2 is Sunday at 4:00 pm et. Game 3 if necessary would be at Monday at 1:00 pm et.
