Down This Road Before

Georgia lost to Rice in the first game of the 2006 College World Series. One more loss and they will be eliminated. Big Deal! The Bulldogs are 8-1 this postseason in elimination games are they are 5-0 in the NCAA Tournament where it counts the most. In the past, the Dawgs have had to fight their way back, so don't be surprised if it happens again.

The Georgia baseball team has faught it's way back all season. Remember back on April 25th, they were 24-16 and just lost to Western Carolina, and were in 5th place of the SEC East.

Then Georgia won 13 in a row and almost won the SEC East. Then they lost the first game of the SEC Tournament before the rattled off 3 straight wins, one of them they trailed 9-0.

More of the same happened in the NCAA Tournament. The Dawgs lost the 2nd game to FSU and were almost down and out. 3 games later they won the regional including 2 against that same Seminole bunch. In the Super Regional, Georgia was destroyed by South Carolina 15-6 in the first game. You know the rest of the story, 2 straight wins and both of them, they had to fight back. Now they are in a similar situation in Omaha.

This isn't the first NCAA Tournament Georgia's had to fight back. In 1990, they were almost eliminated in the College World Series, but won their last 2 to win it all. One of those wins came against Stanford's ace Mike Mussina.

In 1987, Georgia's first College World Series trip, they lost the first game of the NCAA Regional to Fordham. They had to win their last 4 games to advance and they did. In 2001 and 2004 they lost early and had to fight back as well.

So don't be too down on the Dawgs, they seem to find ways of fighting back and maybe they will do it again.
